Start a Chef’s Heart Club!

1. Gather Your Team

Start by finding a few friends or classmates who are passionate about giving back. You don’t need a large group—just peers who are committed and willing to lead with heart.

2. Find a Club Advisor

Ask a staff member to serve as your advisor. Then, connect with your school’s activities office to get approval and set up the logistics for your club.

3. Set Up the Basics

  • Find a place to hold meetings (like a school culinary room or community kitchen)
  • Check with your local food shelf to confirm what kinds of sandwiches they accept (meat & cheese, PB&J, etc.)
  • Decide how often your club will meet (monthly or based on availability)

4. Organize Your Supplies

  • Ingredients: Bread, meat & cheese OR peanut butter & jelly
  • Packing: Ziplocks, labels, and instructions
  • Sanitary items: Gloves, hairnets, disinfectant wipes, clean utensils

5. Promote Your Club

Create an Instagram account to spread the word and announce meeting dates. Make sure the handle clearly identifies it as a chapter of Chefs Heart (e.g., @chefsheart_[schoolname]). This helps tie your chapter to the larger Chefs Heart community while keeping it recognizable

6. Run Your Meetings

  • Assign roles (sandwich makers, baggers, labelers)
  • Go over safety and hygiene procedures
  • Make sure someone contacts the food shelf ahead of time
  • Arrange reliable transportation to deliver the sandwiches
